Susan's Grave

Born June 16th,1810 - Died June 16, 1904, one could say that Susan's story is one of legend. A legend that sowed the seeds for Galesburg and Knox College to follow. Knox College became a place that attracted many philosophers and politicians on the matter of slavery. Without Susan Richardson and her contribution towards abolitionism, we may not be a historic site of the famous Lincoln-Douglas debates. Knox College matched the attitude of the community that supported Susan Richardson, and admitted women, students of color, and students from poor economic backgrounds (back when it was known as Knox College of Manual Labor). To this date, Knox College upholds this idea from Susan Richardson by becoming a liberal arts college that supports and honors students from various ethnicities, genders, and identities.
